MinCom assigns 55 WiMAX licences

Colombia’s communications ministry Mincomunicaciones (MinCom) has awarded 55 departmental WiMAX licences for the 3.5GHz spectrum band. MinCom received 161 proposals from 24 companies to provide services in the country’s 32 departments. Cable Unión de Occidente received 19 licences, Comcel received 13, Avantel was awarded seven, Comunicaciones Satelitales de Colombia six, Cablecentro five, Emcali two, whilst Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de la Orinoquía, Wireless Colombia and Servisatélite received one concession each.
