The Solomon Islands’ monopoly telecoms provider, Solomon Telekom, says that it has obtained an injunction against Digicel Pacific, preventing its rival from providing any telecoms services in the country, pending a court decision. The islands’ High Court is currently deciding whether or not to uphold Telekom’s exclusive communications licence. Carribean-based mobile group Digicel is aiming to expand across the Pacific region; it reportedly holds an ‘experimental licence’ in the Solomon Islands, granted by the Telecommunications Authority.
