22 Dec 2006

Turkey’s largest cellular operator Turkcell has confirmed that it intends to bid for a mobile licence in Saudi Arabia. The concession is expected to be auctioned in the first half of 2007 and has already attracted interested from the likes of Orascom of Egypt. Saudi Arabia is currently home to two cellular operators, STC and Mobily, which served more than 17 million subscribers between them at the end of September, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database.
