Good year for Antel

Uruguayan incumbent Antel has said that its profits for 2006 will be around USD65 million, and that by the end of December it expects to have 102,000 broadband subscribers and 950,000 mobile subscribers. In a statement from the vice president of the telco, Edgardo Carvalho, reported by BNamericas, it was revealed that targets for 2007 will include the launch of a 3G mobile network, further trials of internet protocol television (IPTV) services, and an increase in broadband subscriptions to 170,000. The 3G network will be initially deployed in the capital Montevideo and other provincial centres. Carvalho also predicted a full commercial launch of IPTV by 2008.
