Mobitel announces EDGE, HSDPA upgrades

Slovenia’s largest mobile operator Mobitel said that it will upgrade its GSM/GPRS and W-CDMA networks to raise data transfer speeds. The company said it would finish the upgrade of its GSM/GPRS network with EDGE technology in the first half of 2007, raising 2.5G data speeds to a maximum 236kbps. Mobitel also plans to upgrade its 3G network with an HSDPA platform, supporting download speeds of up to 3.6Mbps; it gave no timeframe for the 3.5G service launch.
