Rostelecom, KDDI plan Russia-Japan cable

13 Dec 2006

Russia’s dominant long-distance operator Rostelecom and Japanese telco KDDI have signed an agreement to lay a high speed cable link between the two countries. The pair have previously collaborated on other international cable projects, including the Europe-Asia Transit link and the Russia-Japan-Korea system. Construction of the cable will be carried out by NEC and is due to be completed in 2008. KDDI president Tadashi Onodera said that the new link will ‘significantly improve our ability to meet our customers’ growing needs for Europe-Japan and Russia-Japan high-speed communications’.
