13 Dec 2006

The conditions for Russia’s 3G licence auction are due to be announced on Christmas Day, Federal Communications Agency director Andrei Beskorovainy has announced. The tender is then expected to be launched in April next year, with three or four concessions up for grabs, Prime Tass reports. The three main Russian cellcos, MTS, Vimpelcom and MegaFon, have confirmed that they intend to apply for next-generation licences, while the major fixed line operators are also expected to enter the running.
