Excelcomindo to raise USD400 million to fund network expansion

11 Dec 2006

Indonesian mobile operator Excelcomindo (Excelcom) has announced plans to raise up to USD400 million in debt in 2007 in order to expand its mobile phone network, as overseas rivals such as Hutchison Telecommunication International enter the country. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Excelcom is Indonesia’s third largest GSM operator by subscribers behind Telkomsel and Satelindo, having launched in 1996. It offers services in Jakarta and the main business centres in Bali, Java, Lombok, Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi. Earlier this year it revealed plans to expand its mobile market share in 2007 to take second behind Telkomsel, and allocated USD500 million for its network rollout in 2007, a similar sum to the amount set aside for 2006.
