Vodacom reveals targets

7 Dec 2006

Pan-African cellular operator Vodacom Group, a joint venture between Britain’s Vodafone and South Africa’s Telkom, has said that it is interested in expanding into four more African countries, following the relaxation of a restrictive shareholder agreement by Vodafone earlier this year. The cellco is looking at Algeria, Angola, Ghana and Nigeria as possible high-growth markets. Vodacom has long coveted a share of the Nigerian market, and did manage a brief period in control of Vee Networks (now owned by Celtel International) during 2004, before pulling out over alleged financial irregularities.
