WiMAX strategy needs clarification

4 Dec 2006

Taiwan’s Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) and the National Communications Commission (NCC) have proposed two differing plans for the licensing of WiMAX spectrum. DigiTimes reports that the MOTC is looking to award two national ten-year WiMAX concessions, with the possibility of another two depending on demand, while the NCC wants to offer nine regional licences which will be valid for six years. Industry players are calling for the pair to meet to formulate a joint proposal. Licensing is expected to take place in mid-2007.
