The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has revealed that it plans to increase telecommunication coverage in Sabah to 80% within a year. Sabah Regional Office Head Ahmad Nor Hisham Mohd Yusop told reporters that the target would be realised under a collaborative effort between the regulatory body and the Sabah state government called Universal Service Provision (USP), launched in 2004. Under USP, basic telephony, a community internet centre and broadband services were provided to selected villages in 25 districts earlier this year.
