Telefónica gets go-ahead for satellite TV, papers say

Telefónica has received permission from Colombia’s television regulator CNTV to offer satellite-TV services via its local arm, Telefónica Telecom (formerly Colombia Telecom), writes BNamericas citing local daily newspaper Portafolio. The regulator will set a licence fee in February next year. The announcement adds to the company’s Latin American portfolio of TV operations in Peru, El Salvador and Chile. It has plans to launch in Argentina in 2007.
