Georgian cellco Mobitel, a subsidiary of Russian mobile operator Vimpelcom, will be launching its 2.5G network in February 2007, according to Vimpelcom’s chief executive Alexander Izosimov. Mobitel has held a GSM-1800 licence since November 2003, but it was not until October 2006 that the deployment of its network, the country’s fourth, was announced, following the purchase of 51% of the company by the Russians.
