French broadband base topped 11.8 million users in September, says Arcep

According to figures from the French telecoms regulator Arcep, the total number of broadband subscribers in the country reached 11.8 million at the end of September, up 39.6% year-on-year. Of the total, 11.1 million accessed the internet via ADSL technology thanks to the addition of 644,000 new users in the third quarter, the regulator said. France Télécom added 320,000 new ADSL users in Q306, while rivals Iliad and neuf Cegetel signed up 171,000 and 90,000 new users respectively. In addition, Arcep noted that 21,000 new subscriptions were recorded for cable, wireless in the local loop (WiLL) and fibre-optic broadband services.
