India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will grant mobile spectrum to mobile operator Aircel, according to local paper Zee News. Aircel has been handed a letter of intent saying it will receive frequencies covering seven new circles: Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh (East and West), Kolkata, Kerala, Haryana and Punjab. The allocations are expected to be formalised by the end of the year. Aircel currently offers mobile services in Tamil Nadu, Chennai, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir, Orissa and six north eastern states. It is due to launch in Bihar and Himachal Pradesh by early next year.
