Record quarter at MTS

30 Nov 2006

Russia’s largest cellular operator MTS has reported a 30% year-on-year rise in third-quarter sales to USD1.79 billion. Net profits were up 40% to USD486.3 million, while operating profits climbed 38.2% to USD685.5 million. The firm says subscriber growth across all its operations coupled with seasonal factors and a rise in interconnect revenues in Russia all contributed to the strong performance. MTS had 49.99 million subscribers in Russia at the end of September, plus another 20.5 million split between subsidiaries in Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Belarus.
