COTEL plans rural network

Co-operativa de Teléfonos Automáticos La Paz (COTEL), Bolivia’s largest regional telecoms co-operative, has signed agreements with local authorities in 14 rural communities in La Paz to rollout satellite-based telecoms services in the regions from January 2007, according to BNamericas quoting local daily La Razón. COTEL will provide a suite of telephony, internet, data and TV services via VSAT to the 14 outlying communities. Financial details of the rollout were not disclosed.
