24 Nov 2006

BNamericas reports that incumbent telco Telefónica de Argentina is planning the investment of ARS70 million (USD22.8 million) next year to improve its network coverage in the southern provinces of Chubut, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego. This will include ARS15 million to deploy a fibre-optic cable stretching 470km between Rio Gallegos in Santa Cruz to Puerto Natales in Chile, plus coverage of the cities of El Calafate and Rio Turbio, both in Santa Cruz. Chief Executive Juan Waehner said the planned investment in Patagonia for 2007 was 20% more than investments in the area this year.
