Etisalat and Telkom Kenya to lay cable

23 Nov 2006

UAE incumbent Etisalat has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to construct, operate and maintain a high capacity fibre-optic submarine cable with Telkom Kenya. An Etisalat spokesman said the jointly-owned cable system will link Mombassa with Fujairah and would be known as The East African Marine System (TEAMS). A supply and construction contract will be awarded in early 2007 for the link, to be of a minimum of two fibre pairs with a capacity of 10Gbps apiece, upgradeable to 320Gbps.
