22 Nov 2006

Belgian cellco Mobistar has contracted China’s Huawei Technologies to deploy Mobile Switching Centres (MCS) for the unification of its 2G and 3G core networks. The value of the deal was not disclosed. The deployment marks the transition of the Mobistar core network from a traditional TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) architecture to a distributed IP architecture and will be implemented over several years. Huawei will integrate its Mobile Softswitch R4 solution, which will support increased traffic and ensure the continuity of services provided to existing customers, as well as enabling future evolution of the 2G and 3G networks.
