CPP boosts fixed-to-mobile

Vimpelcom, Russia’s second largest cellco, says that the introduction of the calling party pays (CPP) system has led to a proportionate rise in fixed-to-mobile traffic on its networks. Calls from fixed line phones to Vimpelcom customers now account for 6% of all Vimpelcom traffic, up from 4% before the launch of CPP. The operator claims that the increase has been felt even more strongly in Moscow, according to a Prime Tass report, with fixed-to-mobile calls representing 8% of its traffic in the capital, up by 3.5 percentage points. Vimpelcom had more than 47.6 million subscribers across Russia at the end of September.
