Trio sign deals to buy TD-SCDMA handsets

China Telecom, China Mobile and China Netcom have signed contracts with 15 mobile phone manufacturers to buy at least 9,000 TD-SCDMA mobile phones, as part of a trial for the home-grown 3G technology, the official Communication Weekly reported. It said the suggested sale price for the units is CNY2,500 (USD315) per handset. Of the 15 manufacturers, twelve are domestic companies, including ZTE, Levono and Datang; the other three are LG, Samsung and Motorola. The three cellcos plan to place orders for a further 10,000 TD-SCDMA mobile phones next month, the report added.
