Irish incumbent fixed line operator eircom has won a major network contract with local banking group AIB to construct and manage a storage area network (SAN) across the capital Dublin, writes siliconrepublic.com. Under the deal, eircom will install over 140km of fibre-optic cabling to support AIB’s data storage needs for the next decade. The system will use next generation managed optical networking services to deliver secure, high-bandwidth connectivity across multiple locations, with an emphasis on supporting the capital’s financial services sector. The former monopoly will manage the service for ten years, including monitoring the hardware and network elements.
