Spanish start-up mobile operator Xfera Móviles has awarded Ericsson a three-year managed services contract covering the operation, management and maintenance of its 3G network, ahead of its commercial launch in December. Also included are field operations and related services such as the network operation centre, system support of software and hardware, engineering, and network optimisation.
According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Xfera completed the first 3G call over its UMTS network last month. Ericsson is currently rolling out its W-CDMA infrastructure, which will cover 25% of the population by year-end. Xfera will offer nationwide coverage based on a combination of its own 3G network and roaming over the network of Vodafone Spain. Services will be offered under the brand name ‘Yoigo’.
