C&W betters expectations

8 Nov 2006

Cable & Wireless (C&W) said EBITDA at its UK business was GBP73 million (USD139 million) in the six months ended 30 September 2006, ahead of predictions and leading it to expect fiscal full year EBITDA of between GBP145 million and GBP150 million, excluding its wholesale broadband business.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, C&W is in the midst of a major restructuring of its UK operations. In September it sold its retail broadband business Bulldog to Pipex Communications for GBP12 million, as it switched its focus from retail to wholesale internet access. C&W had stopped acquiring new residential and small business retail customers on 1 July, and by the end of September it had 14,566 major wholesale broadband subscribers. Last month it completed the rollout of its UK Next Generation Network (NGN) ‘under budget and ahead of time’.
