Korean handset manufacturer Pantech Group has signed a major contract with Orange France to supply it with branded UMTS phones. The agreement marks Pantech’s first partnership with a Europe-based global mobile operator. The Korean company’s first model will be the U4000, which features a video telephony function incorporating a 1.3 mega pixel camera and VGA camera, a 1.9 inch 260,000 colour TFT screen and 72 polyphonic ringtones. Other features include Bluetooth, a micro SD card slot and an MP3 player. Pantech also supplies phones to SFR and Bouygues Télécom and plans to accelerate its business in France, with the aim of becoming one of the country’s top five mobile phone brands by the end of 2008.
