The first commercial WiMAX wireless broadband services have been launched in Wellington. Start-up operator NZWireless is offering a 2Mbps symmetric service with a monthly usage cap of 10GB for NZD80 (USD53.50). A 3Mbps symmetric service costs NZD125 (USD83.60) a month, while for an extra NZD25 (USD16.70) a month users can get unlimited access. Installation costs NZD250 with a twelve-month contract, or NZD500 without. Services are currently only available to business users in the city’s central and Lower Hutt districts.
