Q-Tel preparing major international expansion

6 Nov 2006

Qatar’s incumbent fixed line telco Qatar Telecom (Q-Tel) is preparing to announce a raft of international investments, writes CommsMEA citing unnamed sources within the company. Qtel is said to be recruiting new staff from around the globe to assist in its plan, which includes efforts to identify suitable telecoms investment opportunities in a number of countries. The paper writes that Q-Tel is not limiting its reach to the Middle East and Africa, but is contemplating a series of global investments, including possibly in Indonesia. The operator is not simply interested in so-called ‘greenfield licences’, but is also looking at potential operations for acquisition.
