Swisscom belatedly launches IPTV

2 Nov 2006

Swisscom has announced the launch of its long-delayed IPTV service, Bluewin TV. The new service offers customers access to more than 100 TV channels, 70 radio channels, a library of 500 movies on demand, live sports coverage and as many as 30 movie channels, for USD23.35 per month. The launch of Bluewin TV was originally set for March 2005, but was postponed because of ‘technical issues’, not least that the set-top boxes originally specified by Microsoft did not have hard drives. The box now in use has a digital hard-disk recorder with 200 hours of recording capacity and includes a time-shifting capability.
