MTN South Africa says it is now ready to implement mobile number portability (MNP) on 10 November to meet the regulator’s deadline for the introduction of the new system. Originally due to be introduced earlier this year, South Africa’s three cellcos have struggled to get their MNP systems up and running and the deadline has been pushed back. MTN, which is South Africa’s second largest cellco with 11.16 million subscribers at the end of September, says testing of MNP software is now complete. Bernice Samuels, general manager at MTN’s Strategy and Marketing Communications division, said: ‘We are excited at the introduction of MNP for consumers and we see it as a positive development in the mobile telecoms market.’
