Cosmote Romania has announced that its wireless network now offers 92% population coverage and 76% geographic coverage, following an expansion programme which has seen it invest EUR220 million over the past twelve months. The firm says it will continue its rollouts, planning to cover 95% of the population and 82% of the territory by the end of this year, with a longer term goal of reaching 98% of the population. The firm’s CEO, Nikolaos Tsolas, commented: ‘Cosmote Romania places special emphasis on its network optimization. We are making significant investments to rapidly increase our network capacity and expand the coverage throughout Romania, aiming to achieve nearly full population coverage during 2007.’ The cellco had more than 530,000 subscribers and a 3.6% market share at the end of June according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database and has been working to improve its networks after a relaunch last year.
