Chile’s second largest fixed line and mobile operator Entel posted net profit of CLP27.2 billion (USD51.7 million) in 3Q06, up 57% from CLP17.3 billion in 3Q05. Revenues for the third quarter reached CLP194 billion, up just 1%; the lower than expected increase was attributed to the sale of Entel’s subsidiaries Americatel USA and Americatel Central America in June 2006. Excluding the disposals, revenues during the quarter were estimated by the company to have risen by 12% year-on-year, bolstered by a 24% increase in its domestic mobile customer base and increased take up of data. The company’s mobile unit Entel PCS recorded total revenues of CLP140 billion, a 19% increase compared to CLP117 billion in 3Q05. Its number of mobile customers grew 24% to reach 4.77 million (80% pre-paid), representing a market share of 41% at end September 2006.
