Union spat now includes Telecom Argentina

30 Oct 2006

Second-placed wireline operator Telecom Argentina, which recently announced a ARS1 billion (USD321 million) investment program in its broadband infrastructure, has been caught up in the union conflict that has been threatening the expansion plans of its main competitor, market leader Telefónica de Argentina. BNamericas reports that the telecom workers’ union Foetra has now taken up the torch for Telecom Argentina’s outsourced workers to be given status as Foetra members, rather then members of the construction union Uocra. As reported last week in CommsUpdate, 2,000 of Telefónica’s outsourced personnel are already involved in the dispute which could see broadband expansion plans, as well as fixed line installation, disrupted.
