Canadian telco Shaw Communications announced net income of CAD210 million (USD188 million) or CAD0.97 (USD0.87) per share for its fiscal fourth quarter ended 31 August 2006 compared to net income of CAD70 million or CAD0.31 per share for the same quarter last year. Net income for the full fiscal year was CAD458.3 million, up from CAD153.2 million the previous year. Customer growth continued with gains recorded across all product areas. Digital phone lines increased in the quarter by 43,744 for a total of 212,707 at the end of August. Internet and digital subscribers increased by 25,907 and 9,630, respectively. Internet customers now exceed 1.3 million and Shaw’s internet penetration has increased to almost 60% of its basic telephony customers.
