Globe Telecom sides with PLDT in rejecting competition policy

19 Oct 2006

Filipino operator Globe Telecom has joined national operator Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) in opposing the country’s proposed competition policy to redefine the telecoms industry, although it has different reasons for taking its stand. Globe, which represents one half of the de facto duopoly in the Filipino telecoms market, says its opposition is based largely on ‘constitutional and legal grounds’ and will submit its official position paper next week, writes the Manila Standard Today.
