Voice traffic up 26%

Romania’s telecoms regulator ANRC says that voice traffic generated within Romania reached 10.61 billion minutes in the first half of this year, up 26.6% on the first six months of 2005. There were 4.4 million fixed lines in service at the end of June, with alternative operators increasing their share of the market to 15%; the remainder are operated by incumbent PTO RomTelecom. Revenues in the telecoms market as a whole grew 23% in 2005, far outstripping the country’s GDP growth rate of 4.1%.
