Response to cheaper broadband exceeds Batelco’s expectations

17 Oct 2006

Bahraini incumbent Batelco has reported that ‘thousands’ of customers had pre-registered for its new low-end broadband internet access package by its 10 October launch date. The service offers a 256kbps downlink DSL connection and a 2GB monthly download threshold for BHD10 (USD26.7) per month. Subscribers get a maximum download speed of 64kbps for usage in excess of 2GB, with no extra charges. ‘We anticipated an enthusiastic response to our broadband package but the take-up has exceeded our expectations,’ said Batelco Corporate Affairs General Manager Ahmed Al Janahi.
