MTNL to launch IPTV Saturday

16 Oct 2006

State-owned telco Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) will this week launch India’s first commercial IPTV service. The telco has been testing the service for more than a year, and will make IPTV available to all of its ‘Tri Band’ broadband customers in Mumbai from 21 October. The service will initially feature a bouquet of 25 free-to-air and pay-TV channels, later rising to 200, as well as video-on-demand content. The IPTV set-top box costs INR6,000 (USD132), with service packages starting at INR199 (USD4.4) per month. The service will be extended to Delhi shortly.
