NTT West selects 802.11j wireless system from Strix

12 Oct 2006

NTT’s wholly owned fixed line subsidiary NTT West has selected wireless mesh networking developer Strix Systems to deploy a multi-service mesh network service in Japan. Under a five-year agreement, Strix will deploy its Access/One Network Outdoor Wireless System (OWS) and Indoor Wireless System (IWS), enabling the operator to deliver broadband wireless voice, video, and data services primarily to its corporate enterprise and government customers. The Access/One solution will also be used for public safety, emergency services, and related government applications.

California-based Strix Systems is one of only a few vendors that support the 802.11j protocol, which operates in the 4.9GHz to 5GHz frequency bands. Its 802.11j solution resolves NTT’s problem of finding a high speed mesh solution for use throughout Japan, where 802.11a is prohibited.
