Mobitel’s new network to be built by Alcatel

Georgian cellco Mobitel, a subsidiary of Russian operator Vimpelcom, has announced that French vendor Alcatel will be supplying the country’s newest network in the form of a GSM/GPRS/EDGE ‘end-to-end solution’. The 2.5G network will be deployed with readiness for the later introduction of 3G UMTS and/or WiMAX standards, and is planned for the first quarter of 2007.
