Belgacom to offer PLC-based IPTV service

12 Oct 2006

Belgian fixed line incumbent Belgacom has contracted Canadian vendor Corinex to supply it with powerline communications (PLC) technology to deliver room-to-room AV streaming as part of its bundled broadband and IPTV package. The PLC service will use the existing electrical wiring in customers’ homes to connect an ADSL modem to a TV set top box anywhere in the building. Corinex will supply PLC products based on technology developed by Spain’s DS2, capable of handling data at 200Mbps.
