Vodafone Czech changes strategic focus, inks partnership deal with Star

10 Oct 2006

According to reports in the Czech Business Weekly, Vodafone’s Czech mobile subsidiary is changing its strategic focus from small and mid-sized businesses to large corporations. People close to the company says it will bring in new offerings in 2007 designed to target the enterprise segment. In addition, Vodafone Czech has signed a deal with Star Communications to distribute and resell its branded pre-paid calling cards at retail chains nationwide. Vodafone is the third largest operator by subscribers in the country and, to date, has lacked a comprehensive offering that would attract large corporate customers. The unit is also looking to secure a network sharing agreement with German-owned T-Mobile Czech Republic and has reportedly put a preliminary agreement in place. A final contract is expected to be announced within the next few months. In June this year Vodafone said it was scrapping its plans to roll out a 3G network, but is nevertheless keen to offer UMTS services, given that its two rivals already offer such services.
