Telefónica de Argentina to increase broadband investment

6 Oct 2006

Following yesterday’s news that Telecom Argentina will be investing ARS1 billion (USD321 million) in its broadband operations over the next few years, the other main player Telefónica de Argentina has also announced an increase in broadband investment. It is currently investing ARS350 million a year in broadband coverage, and BNamericas reports that this will be increased by 30% once the government approves legislation allowing telcos to offer triple-play services. Telefónica de Argentina, the former monopoly wireline provider, had, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, 408,700 broadband subscribers at the end of June 2006.
