United Arab Emirates incumbent monopoly operator Etisalat has received primary approval from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority to introduce services to Dubai’s new communities, which were to be exclusively served by recently-licensed second national operator Du. Chief Executive Mohammad Kalfan Al Qemzi gave no details about the expected launch date of the services, saying it was waiting for the TRA to complete the necessary procedures. Du has yet to start commercial operations in the UAE, but plans to launch by the end of the year.
