Telecom Argentina to invest a billion in broadband

5 Oct 2006

Former wireline monopoly Telecom Argentina says it will be investing ARS1 billion (USD321 million) to improve its digital network and services. Chief Executive Carlos Felices said the investment was long term and the work, including widening the availability of broadband service and improvements on internet telephony and wireless internet access, would take several years to complete. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Telecom Argentina is the country’s second placed broadband provider by a whisker with 300,000 retail subscribers at the end of June 2006, compared to Telefónica de Argentine’s 310,344. Between them, the two firms share 59% of the domestic market.
