Tajikistan mobile operator M-Teko has contracted Russian vendor EastWind for the delivery and implementation of an SMS gateway, the vendor said in a statement. The gateway will enable SMS messaging between CDMA and GSM networks, vital in a country where nine cellcos provide services via a variety of technologies, including GSM, CDMA, AMPS and W-CDMA technology. M-Teko launched commercial services over its CDMA2000 1x 450MHz network in Khudjant, the capital of the Sughd region in northern Tajikistan, in February 2006. It offers a range of voice and data services and plans to extend coverage to Khatlon in the short term. The two companies have worked together for around a year, during which EastWind has provided the cellco with billing systems, an SMS centre and a missed calls notification system.
