Telkom blocks unregistered TELKOMFlexi users

2 Oct 2006

State-backed Indonesian national operator PT Telkom says it has blocked the telephone numbers of 171,391 pre-paid TELKOMFlexi users – roughly 5% of the total 2,794,364 subscriber base – for failing to register their numbers on time under a new government-led scheme. The telco says a further 43,038 numbers have been put on a ‘soft block’ and will only be reactivated when customers register through the company’s message or call centres. The government has introduced new rules which require all pre-paid cellular and fixed wireless access users to register their numbers for security reasons. According to the Jakarta Post, Telkom has now implemented an automatic registration scheme for all new TELKOMFlexi registrations.
