NTT to roll out 10Tbps network

2 Oct 2006

Japanese incumbent NTT Group says it plans to roll out a 10Tbps optical backbone network to cater for increased capacity demands from FTTH and DSL users. The operator made its announcement at last week’s ECOC optical conference in the South of France, where it announced it had successfully demonstrated the optical transmission of 14Tbps over a single 160km long optical fibre, eclipsing the previous record of about 10Tbps. NTT’s current infrastructure has capacity for around 1Tbps capacity.
