NetCologne offers 100Mbps surfing

2 Oct 2006

Municipally-owned broadband provider NetCologne is constructing a new fibre-optic network, called CityNet, to compete directly with the national VDSL network being constructed by incumbent Deutsche Telekom (DT). CityNet runs directly into customers’ homes and businesses, bypassing DT’s ‘last mile’ infrastructure. CityNet, which has been available to customers in central Cologne since July 2006, offers internet connection speeds of up to 100Mbps. NetCologne is investing EUR250 million (USD317 million) in its new regional network.
