Vodafone Group has revealed that it has no plans to increase its 3.4% stake China Mobile, though the Newbury-based wireless giant is keeping tabs on 3G developments in the country. Vodafone’s global director of terminals, Jens Schulte-Bockum, said ‘we are happy with our stake in China Mobile and we have no intention of further increasing it. We are closely monitoring 3G rollout plans in China and we believe that our interest in China Mobile provides us with a presence in the country’s wireless market.’ The Chinese are expected to issue 3G licences within the next six months in readiness for the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
